1. What Blender versions does the add-on support? Is LTS supported?

3D Hair Brush is currently updated to v4.X, compatible with:

Blender 3.5 and above, including LTS versions;

v4.7 fully supports Blender 4.3.X and 4.4.X;

Older versions like Blender 3.4 may have issues on macOS (e.g. export crashes or brush display bugs).

We recommend always using the latest Blender version with the add-on.

2. Is the add-on compatible with macOS and Linux?

macOS: Supports Blender 3.6+ (including LTS). Some export or texture import for Hair Cards may cause permission errors on M1 chips—please avoid using Blender 3.4.

Linux (e.g. Ubuntu 22.04): Supports Blender 3.6+ (including LTS).

3. Is the add-on compatible with Blender's Geometry Nodes Hair system?

Currently, all hairstyle presets and brushes are designed for the legacy Particle Hair system and are not compatible with Geometry Nodes Hair. Using the new system may cause errors or fail to load the functionality.

4. Can I export hair to Unreal Engine (UE)? Will Groom replicate the hair effect?

"Yes. Particle hair made with the add-on can be exported to UE via Alembic (.abc) and restored as Groom hair.

Note:"

Enable Export Root UV in Blender;

Enable the Groom plugin in UE;

Hair cards are not suitable for Groom exports—please avoid converting the curves.

5. Can the add-on generate Hair cards? Can hair cards be used in other software?

Yes. The add-on supports hair card generation and exports to FBX, usable in other software like Maya, Unity, Character Creator, etc. Note:

Hair Cards are not automatically compatible with XGen;

Compatibility with other software depends on the target software—we do not provide support for import.

6. Does the Hair Brush add-on support hair animation or Shape Keys?

The add-on itself doesn’t provide dynamic hair animation;

You can use it with Blender’s Hair Dynamics;

For animation control, use it alongside the Hair Shape Key add-on to bake and manage deformation-based animations.

7. What if the hair brushes are not visible in some Blender versions?

If brushes aren’t showing or not working:

Make sure you're using version 4.6 or above of the add-on;

Check for permission issues (e.g., "Access Denied" on Windows);

Refer to this video for uninstalling and reinstalling the add-on:

8. Blender crashes when using the Density Brush—what should I do?

If Blender lags or crashes while grooming:

Disable Children display in the hair settings;

Reduce hair count in the viewport;

Work in small steps to minimize memory load.

9. Can’t uninstall or re-enable the add-on? Seeing “Access Denied” errors?

This is usually a Windows permissions issue. Try:

Running Factory Reset in Blender;

Manually deleting the add-on folder in the addons directory;

Running Blender as Administrator to reinstall the add-on;

"Or follow this tutorial to completely uninstall the add-on:
