1. How can I use the Color Groups to separate and edit different hair regions independently?
Color Groups allow you to divide hair into independently editable sub-regions. Here's how to use them:
During hair grooming, enable the Color Groups feature;
Use different Color Brushes to assign distinct regions;
In the Color Groups panel, select a color group and click the button to isolate and edit only that region of hair;
To exit isolation mode and return to editing all hair, press .
This feature greatly improves workflow efficiency for complex hairstyles, making it easier to control specific areas or styles.
2. Why can I only use the first two color groups and not any others?
This is a known bug in some system environments (e.g., Windows 11 + Blender 4.2), where the add-on has compatibility issues with color group handling. Symptoms include:
New color groups beyond the first two cannot be activated;
Each brush stroke generates a new color group, preventing selection of existing ones.
Solution:
This bug has been fixed in Blender 4.3 and later versions. Please consider updating your Blender version.
3. Why does a new color group get created every time I groom? How can I keep using the same group?
This behavior is due to the current add-on logic, where a new group is generated with each brush stroke by default. The plugin does not yet support “locking” to an existing color group. To maintain a stable workflow, we recommend:
First, use one brush stroke to define the first color group region;
Then isolate this group using the button and continue editing within it;
If you need a new group, switch to a new color and start grooming;
Use to quickly switch between groups.
We are planning future updates to make color group handling more intuitive and flexible.
